Uplift Academy – Session 6
Uplift Academy Session 6 [...]
In session 10, we started up the other sides of the pieces. In the previous weeks we finished up the fronts, so now it was time to start the backs. The design was drawn on in pencil by the residence in artists and color coded with dots of paint so students know what color to paint each element. We got a majority of these sides painted so next week will be 2nd coats and then after that we can begin to start refining the design with outlines.
For this session we focused on finishing the front side of both pieces as much as possible. That meant seconds coats on a lot of the design elements and making sure everything was painted with no traces of primer left. We ended up completing this goal. These sides still need some polishing off, as well as outlined to make the lines crisper, but next week we will be starting on the other sides.
By session 7, the artist in residence took the artwork of the students and combined it all into a final design which was directly drawn on to the Lion Animodule. The Lion was now primed and drawn on, so it was ready to be painted on by the students of Belmont Runyon. We took some time to go over the basics of painting with the students. We also assigned them sections to paint and got to work. We ended up painting a majority of the front of one panel in this session.
How to best describe yourself, your values, beliefs, hopes: Students are asked to choose ten words to describe themselves to people who don’t know them in order to begin the process of creating their Animodule to best represent their values, principles and beliefs. The words are written on a board (by a student) for the entire class to discuss and agree upon.
For the most part Session 6 at Belmont Runyon was a repeat of Session 5. We took up the task of priming the other sides of the Lion Animodule that we did not get to prime last time. This time we got a couple of new students, so we took some time to explain the program, Animodules, and Barat Foundation itself. Then we quickly got to work. This time the painting went a little smoother, most of the kids remembered the process from the week prior and we got done a little quicker. And with this session we are officially done with the priming, and will be able to move on to making final designs.
